Amanda and I have a bird feeder outside one of our windows. It has a mirror on the back so when we look through it, the birds don’t see us, but we can see them. We’ve had different types of birds come to it. Mostly we’ve had dark-eyed juncos coming to this feeder. We used to have a different feeder without the mirror so it was easier for the birds to see us and they wouldn’t stay very long. Well today I was watching some stuff online and heard a different type of whistle coming through the window. I looked over and saw a different type of bird. I have seen lots of these birds in Washington at Amanda’s folks’, but never here. It was a chickadee. I do not know which kind. According to my bird books there are three different types of chickadee in Oregon. This bird was doing something no bird had done before in this feeder. It was attacking its reflection. It was the funniest thing to watch. It would attack its reflection, and then get something to eat, and then attack again. Eventually it left and a dark-eyed junco came. Then the chickadee returned and fought with the junco, who scared the chickadee away. All in all, it was some nice bird watching.
